Come On In

Come On In
A loose-rhyme spur-of-the-moment, midnight-half-dream-inspired free verse. Background playlist:
Any Colour You Like - pink Floyd
For You Blue - Beatles
Rabbit Run - Eminem
Weight - Smith

Ends are around the corner
Every day life is ending
If you didn't make it,
 you can't hear this,
but if you can, come on in.

Ones, singles, solos, misfits,
couples, duos, pairs and bros,
Tres, Quattro, more 'n more,
Everybody get in on the act,
If you can, that is, come on in.

Points barely ever arrived at,
Arguments arrive endlessly,
Perspective is hard to have,
When you're ground to the floor.
Rise up if you can, come on in.

Statue of Liberty: did it have a sword before the torch?

"But morals change every time you come to a new port. "

"...but that needs a lot if perseverance, doesn't it? I'm afraid I haven't got that.

Men in single file, as was NEUTRAL..."
(?)[ natural, methinks the translator means]

Pediment. Caryatids.

"Yes, in this room one realised where one was.

...began actually to take a SON of comfort in the thought that in case of need the stoker...

Ambiguous questions, and this the most unsuitable moment to ask them!"
[Thoughts and (such questions) come to the fore of their own volition, they cannot choose that moment. ]

"Now then, Karl, quick, make the best if every minute you have, before the witnesses..."
[He thought to himself, since the narrator is omniscient, even though K. remains the focus of his narrative/story. ]

Extenuating.

"...a term by no means too emphatic, although it might be exaggerated."
[oxymoronic]

"The desk was certainly not made merely to remind him...in Karl's memory. "
[The mind forms unpredictable connections.]

Oh yes, said mr pollunder, drawling the words, and thus proving that he could not tell a lie.
[how?]

... Peacefully spanned by a gold chain.
[ unusual choice of words]

"The clear night with its benevolent full moon was free to everyone and to be afraid if anything out there, in the open, seemed senseless to Karl."

ju-jutsu

"A breath of dark emptiness..."

"How could a photograph convey with such complete certainty the secret feelings of the person shown in it?"
[Opposite of picture=1000 words]

Impute

[idle/wishful thinking:]
"He would certainly work and push his fortune all the better here, if he were not hindered by idle thoughts if home. "

...a wealth of detail unusual for her...
[but not for Kafka, especially drawing out misery of existing in less than encouraging conditions.

...would always go on changing.
[Truism, but 100% true.]

...in America; the verdict was determined by the first words that happened to fall from the judge's lips in an impulse of fury.

"It's impossible to defend oneself where there is no goodwill," Karl told himself...

...examine for weeks any half-doubtful word of the Manageress.
[over-thinking is rarely beneficial and, counter to prominent beliefs, is gender-neutral.]

He gazed down sadly at the street, as if the cause if his sadness lay there.

...Brunelda's insupportable whims were now being wreaked on him.

["Life" with its surprising twists and turns. Perhaps the end of chapter 7 as K. falls asleep and the beginning of chapter 8 with the theatre announcement is deliberately unconnected.]

There were so many placards; nobody believed in them any longer.
[advertising continues to be important even today]

"...why, it's the greatest theatre in the world. What a piece of luck..."
[...and all the world's a stage - WS]

[I missed the event of him being "engaged as an actor. ]

Always, even in the most unambiguous circumstances, someone could be found to take pleasure in suggesting trouble to his fellow-men.
[Slight variant of schadenfreude? :)]

Untimely deaths abound

I just rewatched Loins of Punjab Presents, and looked up Acharya. Surprised to see a death date, and an accident - equestrian. Pity.

Deflation

डाँवाडोल is a (as is apparent) a Hindi word, that exactly describes my mind state for the past week. To Goa or not to Goa... But I guess noida is easier to continue to live in. In these monetarily-driven times, stability of shelter and sustenance is paramount.

Only this time I think I know where my interest lies. More than that, it's closer than I thought and there's even an old house prefect of mine there! :)

Notes ^c-^v

Benaseeb

क्या मेरा भूत, वर्तमान और भविष्य काल बस एक random series of events है, with no purpose, no aim, no reason for my existence? If so, isn't that true for each living being? We humans try to deceive ourselves into believing that there is a point to life, ignoring the facts staring at us from the mirror - this body of flesh and blood is only that, and no amount of mysticism will stop it from expiring and decaying. That simple knowledge inspires me to live. To exist. To not let a single regret linger for a single moment in my brain, which is all I have
throughout my existence in this universe. The brain is a product of the universe, and the constant companion of life as we know it on earth. Wrinkles on one's palms have no influence on life. कर्म ही जीवन है, और जीवन ही अकेला सत्य है ।

[quotes from zataomm by r pirsig]

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance :

We want to make good time, but for us now this is measured with emphasis on "good" rather than "time" and when you make that shift in emphasis the whole approach changes.

I’ve wondered why it took us so long to catch on. We saw it and yet we didn’t see it. Or rather we were trained not to see it. Conned, perhaps, into thinking that the real action was metropolitan and all this was just boring hinterland. It was a puzzling thing. The truth knocks on the door and you say, "Go away, I’m looking for the truth," and so it goes away. Puzzling.

"the laws of science contain no matter and have no energy either and therefore do not exist except in people’s minds. It’s best to be completely scientific about the whole thing and refuse to believe in either ghosts or the laws of science. That way you’re safe. That doesn’t leave you very much to believe in, but that’s scientific too."

Mass hypnosis. In a very orthodox form known as ‘education'.
