A Few Good Messages

Nothing is old, nothing is new, it's just a matter of your point of view, enjoy life as happy days are few, because if life is an ocean, happy moments are like dew. ------------------------------------------------------------ from Dharam I've seen castles made out of sand, met people who believe destiny is engraved on the palms of their hands, I've seen people change their faiths, experienced love change into hate... I've seen people grow younger with age, and a bird which wouldn't fly out of an open cage... I've seen love sold for money, people who are devastated inside but outside they're funny... I've learnt to expect the unexpected, perfection doesn't exist, we're all defected in our own small ways... some may believe you're one in a million, for others you're just an other in a billion... so live life with all you have, cherish all moments happy or sad, 'cause life is too short and we're here for just the moment. -------------...

Another cellphone dump - another

On the street, you turn a corner, and that's it! Nobody here knows you, or who you are. I like that, at times like now - 1840 hours, 20th August, 2010. It's agreed then - Shah Rukh Khan has chutzpah . :D [Thanks to Mr. Khushwant Singh for an explanation of the word in one of his pieces.] A discourse on how people choose their lucky numbers, with special emphasis on their decision-making processes. I won't tell mine right now. The first thing to understand about myself is to be clear that I am a biological being, evolved through time, and evolving as I type. From this, I choose to infer that I should try to evolve myself consciously, so as to better the chances of a...comfortable, maybe, existence for both me and my dependents. It is I who spends time with me the most, hence I must understand myself the most. To continue the last point [time=understanding] empathy is key to understanding human psyche at a larger-than-unity level. I like this 'unity' word. It's on...

Another cellphone dump

Dopey's 'Mohini and the Snake' tirade. I am organised in my personal habits, and a team player at large, moving into leadership positions when I identify with the goals of the group. A successful SETI would give us something to think about, in all respects. I'd almost forgotten how good listening to music is...and I commend myself once again for getting my Vaio. The MusicBox application rules! \m/ What happened to Write? And so many others before it? How subjective 'truth' is! I also had a blue cap, with the logo of the Penn State Nittany Lions. I don't remember how I came to own it, nevertheless, it was a good cap. I need to get some - lots, actually, else THIS wouldn't be being typed - ideas down in black and white. I think - and I quote my thoughts - that this much I know, I won't die on the road. Then wham!, and V G proves me wrong. It;s the kind of think that Phaedrus would do. I'm sure my paper trail will not be hard to follow, were someone...

Trepidation

I hate to write this, but I have no other timepass. I'd like to quote Dev Babu, from his current status message on Facebook, that time you enjoyed wasting, you didn't waste. Likewise, even though I can't say so on public forums. Must have patience to overcome this trepidation.

Old is gold, sometimes.

The blond psychiatrist in Two and a Half Men appeared in Frasier, Season 4, Episode 7. Watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ftepHIcPGqM&annotation_id=annotation_610116&feature=iv A few episodes earlier, about focus groups, Tony Shaloub also played a part. Also, Malcolm's (of MITM) mother played a part in Season 4. The phrase "All is well" appears in Tintin, Cigars of the Pharaoh, page 28. John Mahoney appeared as Dr. Hanlin in Third Rock from the Sun, Season 1, Episode 8. Patrick Kerr, who played Leon in Frasier, appeared in Third Rock from the Sun, Season 3, Episode 14, as the guy who approaches Sally in the coffee house.

Cellphone Dump

I must remember to get stuff to read on the Metro. One cannot always think of stuff to write/type. A small, quaint building nestled in the curve of a road neither leading to nor starting from it. A serene red and white facade, concealing the hectic pursuit of academic excellence within. I've lost lots of stuff, but the three caps - at very distant gaps in time and space and situation - hurt the most. :( Godrej Interio ad - loser. Someone - me, for starters, till we can find someone more interested and more qualified - should teach the FCI supply chain management. I should incorporate a few - maybe just one, like being ambitious - of the Type A personality. On an unrelated but pretty powerful note, watch American Psycho. !D [A thank you to Fuddu for recommending it.] Why is the Indian Bank's New Delhi main branch disused [middle circle, CP]? It's a criminal waste of prime real estate. Give out your email everywhere. Wait a minute, I think I already do that... Anyway, give it...

Mr. Nash's thoughts on corporate culture: endorsed in full by me.

When people aren’t asking questions They’re making suggestions And when they’re not doing one of those They’re either looking over your shoulder or stepping on your toes And then as if that weren’t enough to annoy you They employ you. Anybody at Leisure Incurs everybody’s displeasure. It seems to be very irking To people at work to see other people not working. So they tell you that work is wonderful medicine. Just look at Firestone and Ford and Edison. And they lecture you till they’re out of breath or something And then if you don’t succumb they starve you to death or something. All of which results in a nasty quirk: That if you don’t want to work you have to work to earn enough money so that you won’t have to work. --- O. Nash

The day the prelude to "One" takes place. I have borrowed "Zero" for HIWTBINW, but am considering sharing it between the two equally, and completely. A plan is already formulating... While I'm at it, cellphone dump: Biggest ifs - first DCE counselling absenteeism, giving phone for messaging. 1. Underutilized housing near R K Ashram Metro station. [First of my deliverables, not in priority order but in chronological, when I'm appointed "Special Supervisor (PMO).] Timunda Tigoda [A tale in a book of Hindi stories, about a dying business man who advises his loafer sons to seek advice in dark times from a three-headed, three-legged man. An old man is the person they find answerable to that description.] Like small children, only the deeds are a little more harmful and dangerous than they were in actual childhood. I think if I die in my sleep, it'll be like I just went on dreaming. Like another life, only with slightly different characters. The extent o...

Session Manager

I've found and applied a good session manager in my Chrome, but I find that I don't use it for what I'd thought I'd use it for - knowledge accumulation. :( DCE continues to hound me. Down with PB! It's DCE, not DTU!

Mankiw: Chapters 22 & 23

"[Gross domestic product] does not allow for the health of our children, the quality of their education, or the joy of their play. It does not include the beauty of our poetry or the strength of our marriages, the intelligence of our public debate or the integrity of our public officials. It measures neither our courage, nor our wisdom, nor our devotion to our country. It measures everything, in short, except that which makes life worthwhile, and it can tell us everything about America except why we are proud that we are Americans." - Sen. R. Kennedy Next edit: my notes of Chapters 22 & 23.

The reason for India lacking high-strata knowledgables

It just hit me: the reason there are not as many intellectual breakthroughs from India as we are capable of is that we start education with the aim of getting a job, a salary, a profit, a comfortable life, the sort of furniture the narrator of Fight Club has, etc. add to this the heavier burden of our parents' expectations, and top off this health hazard with the icing of peer pressure. A heady cocktail, one to make any head swim.

Live Sync

Blog synced to Windows Live. Microsoft strategy is not something small I’d comment lightly about, but I do think they need to consolidate their businesses. I suggest concentrating on making Live a phenomena like Windows. For that, a new Windows, built from scratch, is necessary. next comes making it migration-compatible, and I’m pretty sure Microsoft has the programmers to do it. Google, on the other hand, benefits in this regard from being open-source. Anywhoo, don’t mind these ramblings, please. They are prone to be neurotic and irrelevant, nonsensical even. Sync failed. Microsoft sucks. Was trying out its Live Writer, did everything, failed to publish the above paragraph. Ptooey!

Sleep patterns

It's 3:00 a.m. and I'm unwilling to lie down...how many nights have passed like this? Not consecutively, I'm talking lifelong. It is not the slight foreboding of evil things and bad times that makes us spend sleepless nights, it is the opposite. We end up causing grief to ourselves and people who love us by not taking care of our health properly. I'll lie down right away, and shut down this laptop, my prized Vaio. :)

Pictures on webpages, and general frustration

Is everyone having trouble viewing pictures on sites? First Picasa Web, then Wiki - almost simultaneously - what's going on? C'mon, say it loud - there is NO harm in being a fan of two sports at the same time! Love is such a fun spectator sport - Garfield. I hope my book reaches such heights that I get to chat with Jim Davis et al. I don't have to eat enough, I have to eat EXTRA. Period. The escalator etiquette on the Delhi Metro proves the improvement in the city's bourgeois. Cool, okay and :p. These are the three categories of my acquaintances. There's a reason Coke goes with burgers and such fast food. The aeration in the drink wets the food item more thoroughly than water or juice. In my opinion, of course. I like to think I can 'backward integrate' my neurons into sending what I want my organs to do, to them. Long explanation short, if I think it, my body does it. Tariffs have plummeted, but the need to stay in touch has skyrocketed. This has been inadv...

The Way Forward

I must break out of my habit of attempting to find conclusions to everything - paragraphs of HIWTBINW, conversations with friends, discussions with The Only, movies on television, actions of people. LET IT GO. Concentrate on what you are doing, right here, right now. Listen to Fat Boy Slim.

One more cellphone dump

The HPOP mistake I made - May 2003. This one I'll write about, in detail. Might make a good prologue for TBINW. A time dilation high. We should wave to kids, at least, while passing them by. I almost just did, at kids at Ajayabpur's primary school. Actions speak louder than words. Proves what a...I had the word in my mind at the previous sentence...damn! Anyway, what a bad person I am. Oh yeah! Happy New Year! This Facebook status of mine inspires me to write another batch-addressed mail. Dear Mum wants me to face 'real' India, world, people, society, office, whatever she wants; well, I insist on general honesty, that's all. This thought got way too serious, just like the conversation at Somu's birthday party. I need to check my privacy settings a this blog. Curiously, I'd never typed 'blog' on this phone before! :D The li'l things in life... The blog-(not)-in-my-t9 thing brings into sharp relief the acute un-usage of vocabulary I suffer from. I ...
