Oscars 2026 & Why I Act [all the time]

Nobody knows why the academy award statue is called an Oscar: even a former Academy director couldn't figure out which anecdote behind the golden statuette's nickname for sure. The most famously accepted story is about the hindquarters of the knight - standing on a film reel with five spokes resembling the derriere of an uncle named Oscar.

Such stories, like dreams, are brought to life via movies. So let’s look at this year’s Oscar winners, and let me tell you that I have not watched a single nominated movie this year, because we have completely cut down our screen times. Adwitya deserves to live in the real world as much as possible before the inevitable screens that surround us occupy her brain throughout waking life. On that note, the free-form movies that play in our minds while we sleep are serious contenders for oscars. Blockbuster action, heart wrenching drama, gut busting laugh-out-loud comedy, mysterious whodunit, poignant slice-of-life, mind bending or mind boggling or mind blowing soft science fiction, swashbuckling adventure, edge of your seat psychological thriller, red herring mystery, horrific nightmares and all other film genres.

I myself act all the time, because if I reveal my true nature like Edward Hyde, my Henry Jekyll persona will be drawn and quartered. Just kidding, I'm a proper sushil, shaant, sanatani guy. Reminds me of Sushant, may he rest in peace. Onwards about the 2026 Oscars, in which Sinners were winners. Hedonistic lifestyles suit fortunately famous faces. I am just saying that; I have no proof but these days, I can say whatever we want and leave it up to you to fact-check.

One battle after another got a lot of awards, and DiCaprio has intrigued me ever since I saw What's Eating Gilbert Grape when I was a child, and he was a child as well. Johnny Depp hadn't yet started swigging rum on pirate boats, swaggering and staggering through Disney adventure theme parks. Sean Penn and Benicio del Toro seem opposite ends of the acting spectrum. The former is regularly stoic and morose, the latter, fun and eclectic in acting choices.

Just watch Snatch or The Phoenician Scheme or any of his movies or 21 grams and other hard hitting deep movies.

Case in point, watch my views about Wes Anderson movies! I prefer arthouse and offbeat independent movies over stupid blockbusters, but then again, I also loved the first phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Did you know that cinema comes from kinema, the Greek for movement? Quotes

I don't think of the past. The only thing that matters is the everlasting present. W. Somerset Maugham Ralph Waldo Emerson - "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment."

Money

By Pink Floyd Excellent song. The lyrics pertain to (most probably) the group's experience itself. As such, it is funny and humorous, poking fun at the system of media barons and "chart" economics.  I relate to it even more these days, when all I need is money. I am at peace, content, moksha-esque, even - but I do need money for subsistence. Which reminds me , how do I monetize my writings? Time to fire up the Vaio.

A Cascade of Conversations.

It is a convenience to not have to type a datestamp, so I waste a line on it. The conversation I had with Mr. Malik was hurried; if its depth were to be mapped by sonar, it would be very irregular. The air time was pretty evenly divided, I think, although I know my egotistical thought process gives me way more credit than I'm due for. Still, no, wait, not still, I also committed a grave error of leaving out a person from my life history, despite saying in the same conversation, at a different point of time, words to the effect that a nurtured grievance tends to intensify negatively over time. I hope I have not slipped up too badly. Mahak pressed the red button when I called right now. With Mum, I knew in my heart she knew I was going to be serious about Mahak. Hence, at an opportunistic moment was exploited to full advantage, meaning no negativity whatsoever, and Mum accepted the news with good humor; I think her apprehensions are going to wait till December. Now, I have two things...
